Biography.

Francisco Orantes is the singer many Latin American churches memorized before they knew his name. He was born on October 18, 1959, in the San Pedro neighborhood of Guazacapán, Santa Rosa, Guatemala, and grew up among farms and hard trades: bricklayer's helper, corral hand, coffee picker, dishwasher. At 14 he bought his first guitar, and at 16 he was already recording his own songs.

In 1982 came the turn that defined his career: his first Christian album, "A Mi Señor Jesucristo." The following year he released "Al Dios Verdadero," with songs that are still sung today, like "Fortaléceme Señor" and "Diablo Errante." In 1986 he sang at the evangelism congress in Amsterdam, and his repertoire began traveling through Mexico, Central America, and the United States, performed by voices like Paulino Bernal, Verónica Leal, and Yuri. He has also served his community offstage: in the 2007 elections he was elected mayor of Guazacapán, his hometown.

He has written more than 500 songs, and in the early nineties he opened another door: music for children. From the series "Con Amor a los Niños" came "El Patito Juan," "La hormiga mentirosa," and "El cochinito" — songs that today sound in Sunday schools across the continent. In 2004 he received Radio Nueva Vida's award in Los Angeles for best album and best children's song of the year for "El Patito Juan."

His recent catalog keeps pace: in 2023 he released "Acerquémonos," a norteño album recorded in Monterrey with eight original tracks, and in November 2024 he won the Arpa Award in the Children's Album category for "Navidad con Amor a los Niños," at the nineteenth edition held at the Teatro Metropólitan in Mexico City. In 2025 he presented "Los Orantes Unidos," a family production in Christian mariachi with Marilú Orantes and Azucena Orantes, and in 2026 he keeps releasing singles.

His music doesn't chase the big stage: it seeks the church that sings together, the family that travels singing, and the child learning the vowels with a melody. Simplicity, hard work, and a faith that doesn't depend on applause. Which of his songs do you know without realizing it?
