Gilberto Daza.
Colombian singer-songwriter and producer who brought vallenato and worship to the same stage: four Latin Grammy nominations and an Arpa Award.
Biography.
Gilberto Daza was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, on August 8, 1988. He debuted in 2011 with "Quiero Tocar Tu Corazón", and ever since his aim has been clear: Caribbean rhythms —vallenato, bachata, merengue— alongside pop and contemporary worship. That fusion is what is known as Colombian Pop.
A los Brazos de Papá (2013), with "4 Palabras" as its lead single, got airplay on radio stations across Latin America and the United States and earned him his first Arpa Award nomination. Then came Tu Palabra (2016) and the live album Vivo Tu Palabra (2017), with which he played stages in more than twenty countries and shared the bill with Marcos Witt, Alex Campos, Danilo Montero, and Miel San Marcos. In 2020 came "¿Quién Dijo Miedo?", his best-known album, and in 2022 its live version recorded in Miami.
The Latin Grammy has nominated him three times as an artist —2020, 2022, and 2023— in the Best Christian Album in Spanish category; in 2021 he also appeared as producer of "Milagro de Amar" by William Perdomo, which was also nominated. In 2023 he won the Arpa Award for Regional or Tropical Music Album or Track for El Vallenato Se Hizo En El Cielo, the project he signed with accordionist Sergio Luis Rodríguez.
Next came Buenas Noticias (2024) and its live version VIVO | Buenas Noticias (2025), and in 2026 he released Tu Palabra (10 Aniversario), the EP Nuestra Historia, and the singles "Mi Tesoro" and "Te Amaré". His schedule remains split between Colombia, the United States, and Puerto Rico.
His music promises no success, money, or comfort: it speaks of God's grace and of a hope that does not depend on the outcome. For a generation that grew up singing in church and listening to vallenato at home, Daza is the proof that the two worlds can coexist without either losing its accent.
