Barak.
A Dominican congregational worship band: born in Santo Domingo in 2009 and now sung by churches across the continent.
Biography.
Barak is a Dominican congregational worship band. It was born in Santo Domingo in 2009; its name comes from Hebrew and points to exactly that — bowing down to worship. Today it is sung by churches across Latin America, by Hispanic communities in the United States, and in Europe. It is led by Angelo Frilop (piano and production), Robert Green (lead vocals), and Janiel Ponciano (bass).
The first album, “Mi Gran Amor” (2010), put them in the conversation of Spanish-language Christian music; then came “Generación Sedienta” (2014) and “Lógica de Otro Mundo” (2015). The studio album “Generación Radical” (2016) brought their first Latin Grammy nomination, in the Best Christian Album in Spanish category (2017).
What they do best is record worship where it happens, with the congregation singing: “Shekinah (Live)” (2019) and “Fuego & Poder (Live)” (2022) confirm it, and the latter earned them their second Latin Grammy nomination (2023). Out of those came “Ven Espíritu Santo,” “La Tierra Canta,” “Profetizaré,” “Sí y Amén,” and “Tu Hijo Soy” — a fixture in worship services.
They are regulars at the Premios Arpa: in 2022 “Sí y Amén” won Song of the Year and Best Album or Track by a Group or Duo; in 2024 “Jericó” earned them the Arpa for Songwriter of the Year and also competed for Song of the Year and Producer of the Year.
The Iglesia Tour 2026 has confirmed dates at Arena Ciudad de México, Aruba, Colombia, the Netherlands, England, Italy, and Costa Rica; and they keep releasing live recordings in “Live at Church” format (“El Rey Gobierna Todo,” “Bondadoso Dios”). Their offering is worship meant to be sung together: pop and rock arrangements, direct lyrics, and a clear center — Christ and the faithfulness of his Word — not the stage.
