Biography.

Luis Danilo Montero was born in San José, Costa Rica, in 1962, and came to music through the church door: in the early eighties he formed the group and ministry Sígueme and began leading worship songs in his congregation. That's where his first record, Mi Adoración, came from, in 1986. That origin marks his whole career: songs made for the church to sing together, not for show.

In the nineties his name became a continental reference. For the CanZion label he recorded three albums that became required repertoire in Hispanic churches —Admirable (1997), Eres Todopoderoso (1999), and Cantaré de Tu Amor (2001)— and he took part in the music conferences that brought Latin America a worship sound closer to pop and rock. In 2001 he founded his own label, Sígueme Internacional, and released Sígueme, produced with Fernando Solares and Jeff Deyo, vocalist of the band Sonicflood.

The recognition came with those same songs. Tu Amor (2007) won the Billboard Latin award for best Christian production, and Devoción (2009) received a Latin Grammy nomination. La Carta Perfecta (En Vivo) earned him the Grammy in 2014 as Best Christian Album in Spanish: he was the first Costa Rican to win the category with a production of his own. In 2018 he celebrated thirty years of ministry with Mi Viaje, directed by Thalles Roberto, and the live version of that project was nominated for a Latin Grammy again in 2019. He has also won Arpa awards.

Since 2007 he has lived in Houston, Texas, where he pastors the Hispanic ministry of Lakewood Church. He has never stopped recording: Encuentros (2020), Un Canto al Verdadero Amor with the Costa Rica Philharmonic Orchestra (2021), Navidad (2024), and Encuentros Instrumental (2026). In September 2026 he joined Paul Baloche for the first Spanish recording of Abre Mis Ojos, the song he himself made popular in Latin America more than twenty years ago.

His music isn't about showing off: simple hymns, with choruses you pick up after two listens and lyrics that speak of God more than of the singer. That's why some of his songs have been sung for three generations in the same churches, and why his catalog remains the root of the tree for anyone listening to worship in Spanish today.
