Blest.

In Miami, Spanish sounds like home and worship is sung in four-part harmony. That is how Blest began in 2000: Betsy Jo, Moisés Carrazana, Ivette Carrazana and Joel Ángel Hernández, four Cubans who had left the island in late 1998 and put together a band that still plays in churches across the United States and Latin America.

Their first records came out on the B Music Records label: «Salmos, Himnos y Canciones», «Palabras del Alma» and the duets album «En el Lugar Secreto» (2006), featuring guests such as Lilly Goodman and Ricardo Rodríguez. In 2006, the fourth Arpa Awards gave them Song of the Year for «Déjame», their duet with Ricardo Montaner, and Best Group or Duo Album for «En el Lugar Secreto».

A year later came the Latin Grammy nomination for «Palabras del Alma» in the Best Christian Album in Spanish category; the award went to «Alegría», by Marcos Witt. In 2009, «Blest en Vivo» earned them another Arpa, for Best Live Album, and at that same ceremony the academy honored their website.

Then came «Salvador» (2014), the 2015 acoustic album, «Raíces» (2019) — with its English-language version, «Roots» — and «Testimonio» (2021), the EP they released with Integrity Music, which earned them two Arpa nominations in 2022: Group or Duo and Producer of the Year.

Their formula has not changed: worship pop with harmonies up front, Spanish lyrics, and a motto they repeat, “worship is a lifestyle.” Songs like «Océanos», «Tú eres mi respirar», «Vengo a Adorarte» and «Medley de Adoración» have racked up millions of streams. If you ever sang one without knowing whose it was, this catalog is a good entry point: four Cuban-American voices who learned to worship in two languages. And you — what was the first Blest song you sang at your church?
