Alex Zurdo.

Alex Zurdo is from Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, and is one of the voices that changed Spanish-language Christian music: when he started out, rap and reggaetón still sounded strange in church; today they are part of the landscape.

He began rapping in the island's urban scene, and in the early 2000s he made the turn that defined his career: he left the secular stages behind and built a music ministry. In 2004 he released "Nada es mío," his first Christian album, and between 2005 and 2009 he put out an album a year: "Con propósito," "Se trata de ti," "De gloria en gloria: la trayectoria," "Una y mil razones" and "Así son las cosas."

With "Mañana es hoy" (2012) his audience grew, and in 2016 came his first live album, "A Z Live." Then came "¿Quién contra nosotros?" (2018), "M.E.M.E." (2020), the joint album "UNO" (2021) with Funky and Redimi2, "DTOX" (2022), "CONXSIÓN" (2023), "DUAL" (2024) with Gabriel EMC, and "MAYDAY" (2025).

The recognition came with those albums: the Latin Grammys nominated him twice for Best Christian Album in Spanish, in 2019 for "¿Quién contra nosotros?" and in 2026 for "MAYDAY." At the GMA Dove Awards he won Spanish-language song in 2018 with "Sin Ti" and Spanish-language album in 2019, and at the Premios Arpa his urban catalog has been among the nominees several times.

What sustains his music is the same theme as always: faith told without frills, the everyday life of someone who walks alongside others, and the trust that God holds up what we cannot. He releases music through his own label, AZ Music, and a good part of his catalog is collaborations, so his career also works as a network that connects artists of the genre across the island and the continent.
