Biography.

CRYS is credited as Crystal Velez on her albums and today sings from Los Angeles, but her story starts further south: she was born in Miami, raised in Puerto Rico, and from those two worlds she drew the sound that sets her apart — pop with a Latin pulse and lyrics that move between Spanish and English without asking permission. She has been releasing music since 2017.

Her first EP, Make Up My Mind (2018), came out in English and on her own label. The turning point was Juntos (2021), her first album, and a run of collaborations that placed her squarely in Hispanic Christian music: Evan Craft, Living, Omy Alka and Daniela Galeano first, and later Alex Campos on "Malos Tiempos" (2022) and Tommy Royale on "Ahí Estás Tú".

In 2023 she released two EPs that defined her: Negocios, with "Doble Filo" and "Por Ahí Voy", and Isla del Encanto, a tribute to Puerto Rico that earned her a nomination in the Álbum Vocal Femenino category of the 2024 Arpa Awards — its 19th edition, held on November 7, 2024 at the Teatro Metropólitan in Mexico City. Around those years she also joined JUNTAS, the project where several female voices of Spanish-language Christian music, such as DOE, Julissa and Melody Adorno, record together.

The latest is Nueva Era (April 2026): fourteen songs that range from pop to afrobeats and from salsa to bachata, with "Toda Mi Alma" alongside Alex Zurdo and "Empezar de Nuevo" with Tommy Royale. In August 2026 she added a deluxe edition with three more tracks, and in 2025 she recorded "Villancico Yaucano", a Puerto Rican Christmas classic. Among the titles on Nueva Era are "RAPHA", with Ryan Ofei, and "El Shaddai": two songs whose titles are names of God.

More than a character built for platforms, CRYS writes from what she lives and sings it without frills. Her music doesn't promise success or applause: it speaks of hope placed in God, of identity, and of keeping on walking when the road isn't clear. That's why it sounds just as natural in a Sunday service as in headphones on the way to school.
