Samy Galí.

There are albums you listen to and others you pray with. Samy Galí's falls on the second path: solo piano, unhurried, made to accompany those who pray, study, or just need to turn the volume down on the day. The Puerto Rican pianist has spent more than a decade recording instrumental versions of the songs sung in churches, and today he tops 460,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

His training goes back a long way: a bachelor's degree in Professional Music from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and a public career that begins in 2011 with the album Un Sonido Espontáneo, the same one that a year later earned him his first Arpa Award for Instrumental Album. His official bio sums up years of work alongside figures of Latin music such as Daddy Yankee, Tito Nieves, and Elvis Crespo before turning fully to Christian music.

The albums that made him known are the Sonidos al Cielo saga, which opened in 2017 with Vol. 1 and reached five volumes by 2022, along with Sonidos Que Sanan (2019), Calma para el Alma (2025), and Piano Celestial em Português (2025). The method repeats and works: take a well-known worship song — in Spanish, English, or Portuguese — and let it breathe on piano alone, with room for the listener to think.

The recognition came in three moments: 2012 for Un Sonido Espontáneo, 2018 for Sonidos al Cielo, Vol. 1 — XIV edition, April 18, Lunario del Auditorio Nacional, Mexico City — and 2024 for Sublime Adoración, which took the XIX edition (November 7, Teatro Metropólitan, Mexico City) as Best Instrumental/Choral Album.

His music doesn't chase applause but silence, that space where peace doesn't depend on the mood of the day. That's why he releases almost every month, and why his playlists end up playing in study rooms, on sleepless nights, and in times of prayer. If this week you're looking for music for your time with God, start with Sublime Adoración or Way Maker. And you, what song would you like to hear on piano alone?
