Marcos Witt.

Every Sunday, in churches in Los Angeles, Monterrey, and San Juan, thousands of people sing “Dios de pactos” or “Enciende una luz”. Behind several of the most-sung songs in Spanish is Marcos Witt, one of the names that opened the way for contemporary Christian music across the Americas.

He was born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1962 and grew up in Durango, Mexico. He debuted with the album “Canción a Dios” in 1986 and founded the label Grupo CanZion, the house that became a platform for dozens of Hispanic artists. Since then his name has been tied to the momentum of contemporary Christian music in Spanish and to several generations of young people who grew up singing his choruses.

His catalog tops forty albums. He has won seven Latin Grammys in the Spanish-language Christian music category, the most recent in 2025 with “Legado”, and at the Dove Awards he took the award for best Spanish-language album for “Viviré” (2022). In 2024 the Premios Arpa recognized “Tu Iglesia” as best male vocal album, and “Legado” is again competing at the 2026 Dove Awards.

His thing is singable worship: direct lyrics, choruses the congregation learns the first time around, and songs designed for the church to sing what it believes. He also writes books and gives talks, and in recent years he has been working on bridging generations: his project “Generaciones Adorando” invites younger voices to re-record his songs.

In 2026 he released “Eterno”, the album of hymns he recorded with Marcos Vidal and Marco Barrientos, and in September he released the single “Será llena la tierra”. He keeps his Tour Legado 2026 on the schedule and has “Legado Vol. II: Generaciones Adorando” on the way.
