Ileana Garcés.

Guatemalan Christian pop singer whose 2001 debut, El Amor Tiene Un Valor (Dare To Love in English), earned her Dove and Latin Grammy nominations.

Biography.

Ileana Garcés is a Guatemalan Christian pop singer who in 2001 released the same project in two languages: El Amor Tiene Un Valor in Spanish and Dare To Love in English.

She trained singing from childhood with the artist collective at One Voice, where she was the youngest on the team. In that environment she learned the craft before having her own record, and in 2001 her debut arrived, produced by Álvaro López, with a sound that didn't resemble a traditional choir: on the same album, pop coexists with hip hop, a dance track that ends in salsa, and a ballad recorded with the Sinfónica de México.

Recognition came quickly. In 2002, El Amor Tiene Un Valor competed for the Latin Grammy for Best Christian Album in Spanish — a category making its debut that year — and for the Dove as Spanish Language Album of the Year. Rarely does a first record enter both award shows at the same time.

The heart of her work is in the lyrics: songs with light rhythms about the value of life, family, and God's love amid everyday dilemmas. "There's no way to live life without God," she said at the presentation of that first record, and that phrase sums up the message that sustains her music.

Twenty years later, in 2021, her catalog returned to the platforms: One Voice Productions re-released the two albums under license from Adarga Entertainment Group, and songs like "El Amor Tiene Un Valor" and "Cuando Miro Atrás" continue to play on Christian music charts. For those who grew up singing in the Hispanic church, her voice is part of the soundtrack of those years.
