Generasion.
A Venezuelan Christian rock band born in Maracaibo in 2004 that has spent two decades singing to young people about identity and purpose, with two Latin Grammy nominations and one Arpa Award.
Biography.
In 2004, in Maracaibo, Venezuela, a youth ministry set out to do something uncomfortable for the time: to keep faith music from staying inside the church. Its leader was Alexis Principal, and the project ended up being called GeneraSion. Their first album, “Más Que Palabras,” arrived in 2008: its music videos landed on international channels like Enlace Juvenil, the band began touring, and in May 2011 they signed with the label Rejoice Music after appearing at Expolit in Miami.
That same year, 2011, they released “Yo Soy GeneraSion,” the album that gave them their name and message: identity, purpose, and a faith with no hiding places. They recorded the title track with rapper Redimi2; its music video won the 2012 Arpa Award for Best Music Video, and the album was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Christian Music Album (in Spanish).
Their third album, “Ciudad de Luz” (2016), brought them their second Latin Grammy nomination in that same category, four years after the first, and took them to stages across Latin America, Europe, and the Caribbean, as well as festivals with Luis Palau.
After five years without releases, they returned in 2021 with the single “No Tendré Temor,” alongside Robert Rangel. In 2022 they celebrated the tenth anniversary of “Yo Soy GeneraSion” with an online concert broadcast from Miami that was later released as a live album. And on March 27, 2026, they broke the silence once again with “Ns1+ (No Soy Uno Más),” a song about identity and resistance — “I'm going to sing what nobody wants to sing” — while they work on a new album.
Their music speaks of refusing to surrender to the system, of the courage to row against the current, and of a faith lived at full volume. Two decades after that youth ministry, the band keeps aiming at the same thing: that this generation not be a spectator.
