Doe.
American gospel and worship singer-songwriter: she went from the family septet forever JONES to the Grammy for Heart of a Human, with Spanish versions alongside Lilly Goodman and Blanca.
Biography.
DOE is the stage name of Dominique Jones, a contemporary gospel singer, songwriter, and guitarist in the United States. She was born in Washington state and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, in a home where music was a family affair: by 16 she was already singing with her parents and four siblings in forever JONES, the septet that debuted in 2010 with Get Ready and earned her two Grammy nominations.
Going solo wasn't a direct leap to stardom. After leaving the group in 2014, she worked as a youth pastor in Dallas while still finding her sound. The push came in 2018 as a guest on “Cycles” by Jonathan McReynolds: the song earned her third Grammy nomination and a spot on Life Room Label, McReynolds' own label, in partnership with RCA Inspiration.
In October 2020 came her self-titled EP, with “Brighter” at number one on gospel radio, and in February 2022 the album Clarity, which won the Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year and earned her three Grammy nominations. That season also produced her three Spanish versions: “So Good (Cuán Bueno)” with Lilly Goodman, nominated for Spanish-language recorded song of the year at the 2023 Dove Awards (54th edition), “When I Pray (Mi Oración)” with Blanca, and “En Ti Yo Esperaré” with the Peruvian duo Twice.
Then came the EP Note To Self and the album Heart of a Human, both from 2024: the latter earned her the Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album in February 2025, and “Holy Hands” took the Dove Award for contemporary gospel song of the year that October. In 2026 she released the live EP High Praise and the live album Shiloh, preceded by “Black Boy”, her collaboration with Jon Batiste.
Hers is less about volume than honesty: she writes her songs, plays guitar, and speaks of identity, vulnerability, and hope without hiding the cracks. Eight Grammy nominations and one win later, her bet remains the same as the choir in her family's church: not to sell an image, but to say before God who she is.
