Christian Legacy's Big Band.

Christian Legacy's Big Band is a Christian salsa orchestra in the style of the great big bands: horns, percussion, piano, and backing vocals placed in service of the hymns that Hispanic churches have been singing for decades. It was born in the Bronx, New York, at Blessing Recording Studio, the studio Luis Avilés opened in 1991 and that in 2019 also debuted as a record label.

The idea took shape between late 2019 and early 2020, when Avilés and his mentor David Velázquez found they both wanted to record those classics in big band format. In mid-2020, maestro Guillermo Calderón came on board as producer, and the catalog opened with the Christmas single "Celebrando la Navidad" (November 13, 2020), sung by much of the label's roster; in December 2020 came "Excusas," with David Velázquez.

On September 30, 2021, the self-titled debut album of 18 songs arrived. Five days earlier, on September 25, the orchestra performed live in Puerto Rico with 12 singers and 22 musicians led by Guillermo Calderón, with Norberto Vélez and Domingo Quiñones as special guests and a ministry tribute to Pastor Bobby Cruz. From that night came the recordings "En Vivo Desde Puerto Rico," released between 2022 and 2023.

In 2024 came "Vol. 2.0" and the "Desde La Loma Live Sessions"; with "Vol. 2.0" the band was nominated for a Premio Arpa as Regional or Tropical Music Album, in the 19th edition presented November 7, 2024, at the Teatro Metropólitan in Mexico City. In May 2025 it released "Vol. 3," and in June it brought "Generaciones Unidas" to the Coca-Cola Music Hall in Puerto Rico, with René González, David and Abraham Velázquez, Ezequiel Colón, Wanda Rolón, Kevin Ceballo, Josué Rosado, and Grupo Aposento.

Its sound is big band salsa with lyrics of faith, and its motto says it plainly: "Music is the excuse, the purpose a life for God." The hope is that this rhythm — the very one heard at family celebrations — will carry the message to a new generation.
