Biography.

Sonnus is a Mexican Christian pop-rock band born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, in the late nineties, when brothers Jehú and Jerry Fuentes decided to bring together their songs and their instruments. Acuña sits right on the Texas border, and that crossing comes through in their music: guitars with an edge, choruses meant to be sung together, and Spanish lyrics about faith.

The project got its start with small concerts and youth camps. Jerry (Gerardo Fuentes) writes the songs, plays keyboards, and sings; Jehú sings and plays bass. Over the years, Mattithyah Hernández joined on electric guitar and José Luis "Pepe" Benson on drums. Their style is melodic pop-rock, with the energy of a live band, references to British and American rock, and a touch of reggae.

Their debut album, Lluvia de Luces, came out in 2009 on the Lam / César Garza Productions label and earned them an Arpa Award nomination that year. It produced some of the most-streamed songs in their catalog: "Eres," "Sediento," and "Te Amo, Te Quiero," which together add up to millions of streams on Spotify. In 2014 came the second album, Tocar Tu Corazón, with tracks like "Dueño," "Tu Casa," and "Aleluya."

The next milestone was "Cautivante," the single that earned them another Arpa nomination in the XVII edition (2022), in the Best Rock/Hard Rock Album or Track category; that time the award went to La Nodriza for "Una Dos Y Tres." Since then the band has kept up a steady release pace: "El Verdadero Campeonato" (2022, with Hugo Savinovich), "Ellos No" (2023), and "Por Siempre" (2024), almost all on the Unimusik label. On streaming they top 47,000 monthly listeners.

Sonnus hasn't stayed in the studio: they've played across northern Mexico — Coahuila, Chihuahua, the border — filmed the video for "Eres" in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and keep sharing concerts and sessions on their social channels. The goal the band has repeated from the start is to make music that gives new generations an identity and to leave a message that transforms whoever sings it.
