Rapper Fivio Foreign said on Sway's Universe that abstinence is "the hardest part of my walk with Jesus," according to RELEVANT. Purity is not won by willpower.

He has gone about two months without sex. He said that the night before the interview he was about to break the streak, and that discipline helps him shake off distractions. He is not the first, either: Complex recalled that 50 Cent, Omarion and Redman made similar promises.

The change came before his baptism. On December 31 he said he would enter rehab because he wanted to change and live, 99 Jamz Miami reported. In July he released "Chasin'," a single with a gospel choir dedicated to his late mother, and in August he announced he had been baptized and asked to fulfill the promises he made to God, according to XXL.

On Shade Room Live he clarified that he does not see himself as a gospel artist: he said he is just Fivio and that he seeks to praise God with his music, not worship the devil with it. He also talked about the cost: you have to put some pain in for God to get where you need to be.

Willpower Has a Ceiling

A public vow can hold you up for a few months; it cannot hold you up for a lifetime. Fivio said it without polish: the night before the interview he almost gave up. That honesty teaches more than the pose of someone who claims everything became easy after baptism.

That someone talks about their faith in public does not make them a teacher or a model. It makes them a man telling what is happening to him, just like anyone starting to walk with Jesus.

And there the good news appears: holiness does not come from gritted teeth. "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness'" (2 Corinthians 12:9, ESV).

Grace forgives the fall and also gives strength to keep going. It is not a permission slip to sin, but it is not a low ceiling either: it is the only strength that lasts a whole life.

Sex Is Not the Enemy

Culture keeps telling you that holding back is repressing yourself. The Bible says something else: sex is a good gift from God, and it has a place designed for it. "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled" (Hebrews 13:4, ESV).

It is not that God wants to take something good from you; he wants that good to be lived within a covenant, with care, safety and permanence.

That is why abstinence is not the final goal. The goal is marriage and, deeper still, Christ. When a vow becomes the measure of your faith, every stumble feels like total failure.

At 20, with messages pushing sex from every side, that burden crushes. And the gospel does not ask you to carry it: it asks you to come to Jesus.

Two Months Are Not a Medal

Fivio did not put a date on his promise: marriage is the line he drew in public. Seeing him talk about it in the moment, without pretending he has already won, shows a faith at work, not finished.

Two months are not a medal, and a relapse is not the end of anything either. The guilt that destroys and the sorrow that corrects look alike, but they go to different places: one locks you inside yourself, the other brings you back to the cross. God does not love you because you keep your streak clean; he loves you because Christ already paid for you.

This week you can take a concrete step: tell a trusted friend, your pastor or a counselor which part of your walk is hardest for you. Ask for prayer instead of hiding it.

You do not have to earn purity by willpower; you have to receive it as part of what God himself produces in you (see Philippians 2:13). What area is hardest for you right now, and who are you going to talk about it with?
